I think that the stair riddle is the rail or the steps.
And the dog one is maybe it’s tail.
I’m not sure but that’s what I think!

Some stairs have carpet that runs down along them, I think that it is the carpet!

I think that dogs chase their tails for fun or chase cats. By the way I wonder why so many people are going into the riddle posting on their blogs. It is mostly the year 6 girls that started it!
